Create a Sole Proprietorship

January 29th, 2007 by Brandon Hopkins

If you want to create a company, and you are going to be the only employee of the company, becoming a sole proprietor might be the right way for you to go.

Starting a company as a sole proprietor is pretty inexpensive in most cities. For example, in my city, you have a few fees to pay.

Fictitious Business Name: $10.00

Fictitious Business Name Newspaper Filing: $75.00

Home Occupation Permit: $125.00

Business License: $80.00

Those were the only fees in my city, a total of $290 to start a business. In terms of hiring a lawyer and accountant to start an LLC or Inc. these fees are very inexpensive. The great part is that you can always create an LLC or incorporate at a later time without any different expenses than you would have paid in the beginning.

If you have been putting off starting a business because the fees are too high, or because you don’t know where to start, go down to your cities business office today and tell them you want to start a business!
